4277 Hard at Volunteer Work Again!
Members of AFT Local 4277 at Thomas Edison State College are hard at volunteer work again! When the New Jersey State AFL-CIO called and said they needed help putting together the informational packets for the Labor-to-Labor walks on Saturday mornings, members were more than willing to do their part.
Local President Charlene Martucci also notified her CWA colleagues to let them know that the AFL-CIO needed help, and the two locals joined forces to answer the call. Local 4277 members have consistently donated their lunch hours to help with the packets for many years, and happily continue the tradition. The geography is very manageable - the NJ State AFL-CIO is located across West State Street from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton.
Special mention should be made of Local 4277 members Peggy Allan, Andrew Bugdal who have been volunteering continuously, and special thanks to Carol Smith from CWA for rallying her members to join us in this effort.
The success of Labor Walks depends on two groups of volunteers. Union members who go out on Saturday mornings and knock on the doors of other union members to get out the vote and union members who volunteer to prepare the Labor Walk materials for the entire state by assembling route packages, handouts and maps/directions.
“The New Jersey State AFL-CIO extends a thank you to AFT 4277 members for joining with volunteers from more than a dozen other local unions to assemble labor walk packets used by thousands of union volunteers all across our state. They do an incredible job!” stated John Shea, NJ AFL-CIO Political Director.
As in past years the Labor Walk volunteers will get out the vote in support of labor-friendly NJ AFL-CIO endorsed candidates for national, statewide and local offices. You can find the list of NJ AFL-CIO endorsed candidates here: The only difference between its endorsements and those of AFT NJ is that no endorsement was made in the 4th Congressional District (CD 4).
All AFT members are urged to participate in a Labor Walk this fall: To find one near you, go to http://www.njaflcio.org/labor_walks
When you sign up, be sure to identify yourself as coming from an AFT local.
